Welcome to our vision for a shared future

SGN provides gas services to over 14 million people in homes and businesses across Scotland and southern England. It’s our duty to do this safely, reliably and efficiently.

We’re part of an energy industry in transition. Driven by our customers’ changing needs and the challenge of helping the UK move to a low carbon economy, we’re facing huge changes over the next decade.

The gas network is a valuable asset which currently carries green and natural gas to keep homes warm. If the UK is to meet its climate change commitments, then the way we heat our homes must change. We must adopt low carbon solutions, using greener gases such as biomethane or hydrogen.

There are big decisions to be made. And there is no one shared view of what the future looks like yet. We’re determined to play our part in delivering a shared future.

Right now, our plans are focused on making sure our services reflect our customers’ needs and the changing world.  We’re thinking ahead about what our role is and how we can play our part and at the end of this year, we’ll hand over our five-year plan to Ofgem which will set out our shared future. To build this plan well, we need our customers to share their views and opinions on our service. By doing this, we can make sure that our priorities are our customers’ priorities.

That’s why we want as many of you as possible to be involved as we create our five-year plan, which will cover the period from 2021 to 2026.

To work out what our five-year plan should include, we’ve already spoken to over 12,500 customers and stakeholders. Through these conversations, we’ve found seven priorities they want us to focus on:
